The Northern Ontario landscape you will traverse is supported by some of the oldest geology on earth, the Great Canadian Shield, and is home to unique flora and fauna. The rugged landscape remains to this day difficult to access, and this inspired the ingenuity of bushpilots who worked to preserve animal populations, reduce harmful impacts of forest fires and map this great expanse. Delve into the history of bushplanes in Canada, forest fire management, including the impact of invasive species, geology, and more with the knowledgeable guides of the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre and Entomica Insectarium. As you traverse this untouched landscape, our guides will “edutain” you with facts, games, films and more.

What You Can Expect

When you board, you’ll meet your guides from Entomica Insectarium and the Canadian Bushplane Heritage Centre (CBHC). They’ll guide you in connecting with other passengers. The Agawa Canyon Tour Train’s automated interpretation is excellent and it will enhance your trip to the Agawa Canyon Park. Before arriving, your guides will introduce you to a scavenger hunt which will help you discover the park, its history and natural beauty. On the ride back, your Entomica and CBHC guides will engage you with presentations and experiments that illuminate the following themes:

• History of bushplane development and use in Ontario and Canada
• Flight Theory
• Ecology and geology of the forest you’re traversing and how it impacted forest fire management and resource development
• Invasive species and their impact on forests
• Forest Fire Management practices throughout the ages

In total, you can expect approximately 3 hours of programming that will make your trip fly by (pun intended!). The tour is great for all ages. Presentations and experiments are dynamic enough to entertain youngsters, but educational enough to enthrall any adult. Programming is delivered by professional guides who are knowledgeable and fun.
